La località di Montevecchio

Montevecchio is an old and suggestive village situated near the mines which since 1848 have been supported the territorial culture and economy. Dipped in green woods, nowadays it is inhabited by three hundred people, that with Arbus and Guspini Administrations are trying to revitalize the small village.
Visitors can see the important old mining buildings, which have been recently restructured, Palazzo della Direzione, which has been taken back into all its splendor with its painted rooms and old furnishings, the old guest quarters, where there are held temporary exhibitions of paintings regarding scenes of mining life, local flora and fauna, and minerals coming from the whole world.

Besides, there are several natural paths which meet the old roads of miners, so that in addition to natural beauties, it is possible to admire the buildings and the machineries which made this territory one of the most forefront realty in worldwide outlook. Finally, it is suggested to see Sant’Antonio Well, a mine which enables visitors to get down into the ground through the old lift, experiencing miners’ feelings.
